Something I Found Whilst Researching For My Essay

Whilst researching into the directing essay, and the methods that Roman Polanski used with his actors, I discovered a video on YouTube about the film Chinatown. Chinatown is possibly my favourite film of all time, and one of the reasons why I am especially interested in doing my essay based around Roman Polanski.

The part that I found interesting starts at 4:20. I gathered from the interview that Polanski had several problems with Faye Dunaway during the filming of Chinatown. I'd be very interested as to discover what these problems were and how he got around them.

I'd also like to compare the working relationship that Polanski had with Dunaway to that that he had with the lead actor Jack Nicholson. What I found very intriguing, and I base this purely on memory from what I have read some years ago now, that the tension between Polanski and Dunaway got so bad that it resulted with them fighting on set, with Polanski actually tearing out some of Faye's hair.

I will look into this and see if there is any truth in this, or if it was exaggerated. It would be useful to see how Polanski dealt with this situation and rebuilt their relationship in order to continue working together for the remainder of the film.

I also intend to look into the relationships and methods that Polanski had during different time periods and on different films, and compare them to discover any different strategies that he may have used accordingly.
