One thing that directors need is inspiration. A lot of what I write about and how I transcribe it from script to screen is based around events that have happened to me recently. Throughout this portfolio blog I shall write about these, and describe the emotion that I felt as a result of these.
I shall also write about how I intend to use something like this, or how I have already used it.
Old Man Crying On Bench
Whilst in town with a friend, I sat on a bench outside a shop, because I did not want to go into this particular establishment. I sat on down on the bench and watched the world go by, until I noticed that I had company to my right. The company was that of an old gentleman, who for reasons unclear to me, was sat crying his eyes out.
Emotions: Sympathy, confusion, awkwardness.
I think that something like this could be used to convey a lot of emotions in a film. If the character is not embelished upon, then it would be quite a surreal element, and could leave the audience interested in what it was about. It could also be used to break the current mood in the film, and move it onto another one. If the old man's problem was revealed, it could set a new tone altogether, and would introduce a new aspect.
I also think it could be used as a catalyst to propel another character into some kind of dystopia, and certainly unsettle both the plot and the flow of the plot itself.
